Evil Eye FX Warg Pedal

As savage as its namesake, the Warg is a beast of a fuzz based on a rare Japanese-made pedal from the early 70s. The result? A gnarly, almost distortion-like fuzz!

Evil Eye FX Warg Pedal Review

The Warg is a revival of a little-known Japanese fuzz pedal from the early 1970s, the Ace Tone Fuzz Master FM-3 - a uniquely aggressive-sounding pedal made by the predecessor of Roland and Boss. The FM-3 circuit is similar to that of a V1 Big Muff but with wildly different component values and transistors, resulting in an aggressive, crunchier fuzz that almost borders on distortion. A Muff, it ain’t.

Faithful to the original design, the Warg includes an additional toggle that switches between the stock, a more mid-scooped EQ profile, and a flat profile with a fuller and punchier midrange.

Immerse yourself in a symphony of saturated tones as this pedal takes you on a journey through the realm of harmonically rich fuzz.  Whether you're casting blistering solos, sludgy riffs, or a wall of fuzz, the Warg is your gateway to sonic nirvana.

Evil Eye FX Warg Pedal Features & Specs

Versatile Tonal Options

The Warg features a powerful tone control paired with an EQ switch that sets the midrange of the pedal. The “flat” position puts your guitar front and center with a punchy midrange, while the “scoop” setting creates a massive wall of fuzzy destruction!

Evil Eye FX Warg Pedal History & Designer's Notes

Confession time: I’m not really a fuzz guy. I desperately wanted to be, and I’ve tried so many different pedals and circuit types to no avail. Big Muffs, Tone Benders, Fuzz Faces, Super Fuzzes - everything. None of the fuzzes I bought stuck around on my board for very long.

Then, about a year ago, I came across a really interesting looking pedal on eBay called the Ace Tone Fuzz Master FM-3. Being vintage, badass looking and a fair enough deal, I went ahead a took the plunge. It might sound like hyperbole, but literally the second I plugged it in I thought “f*** me, that’s the fuzz sound I’ve wanted this whole time!” I was sold and needed this thing in my rig for the shows I had coming up.

A few problems, though: the thing is a friggin’ u n i t, like really big. It’s not true bypass because that didn’t exist yet, so it basically has to be on the whole time it’s in the signal chain, and it only runs on battery. Oh, and the input and output jacks are on the same side of the pedal.

The idea to take this circuit and put it into a modern format that could work in my rig essentially launched Evil Eye FX. If I was designing and making one for myself, why not bring this unique circuit back into the market?
