The New OBNE Sunlight Stereo Redefines Ambient Modulation

OBNE Unveils Sunlight Stereo: A Bold Evolution of Modulated Reverb

Old Blood Noise Endeavors (OBNE) has just released the Sunlight Stereo, the newest addition to its expanding lineup of experimental, texture-driven effects pedals. This updated version offers players deeper control, stereo capability, and full MIDI integration, making it one of OBNE’s most ambitious reverb designs to date.

At its core, Sunlight Stereo is a long-form, modulated reverb that prioritizes movement and post-reverb processing. Rather than stopping at a lush wash of ambient sound, the pedal pushes the signal through a short delay, a filter, and a volume stage, all of which can be animated by a built-in low-frequency oscillator (LFO). This design allows for a wide range of tones.

“The original Sunlight was about textures and surprise,” OBNE explains. “With Sunlight Stereo, we’ve taken that essence apart piece by piece and given players direct control over each moving element. It’s brighter, sharper, and stranger, but also far more versatile.”

Expanded Control and Features

Where the first Sunlight leaned into spontaneity, Sunlight Stereo equips players with an extensive control suite. Knobs manage decay length, dynamics, delay feedback, filter frequency, and wet/dry balance, while the LFO section offers rate, depth, shape, and destination controls. The modulation can be assigned to any or all of the post-reverb stages, opening creative options for rhythmic pulses, evolving soundscapes, or shifting pads.

Additional features include:

  • Stereo input/output with mono or mono-in-stereo-out routing.
  • Aux footswitch for tap tempo, reverb hold, or preset switching.
  • Expression and MIDI control over all parameters.
  • MIDI clock sync, onboard presets, and up to 127 preset slots via MIDI.
  • Analog dry-through and selectable trails or true bypass.
  • Soft-touch switching and standard 9V DC operation.

The pedal also introduces a dynamic element: players can adjust how signal strength interacts with the reverb and modulation, enabling expressive pads or indefinite reverb sustains depending on play style. This dynamic sensitivity makes Sunlight Stereo not just an ambient machine, but an instrument in its own right.

In addition to its sonic depth, Sunlight Stereo debuts with fresh artwork from longtime OBNE collaborator Jon Carling. The pedal is available in three striking colorways: maroon, yellow, and black, each retaining the surreal, hand-drawn character that has become a hallmark of OBNE's visual identity.

Expanding the Legacy

By merging elements of their earlier Sunlight and Procession pedals, OBNE has crafted something that feels both familiar and forward-looking. For ambient guitarists, sound designers, and experimental musicians, Sunlight Stereo promises to be a flexible, inspiring tool for crafting textures that are as unpredictable as they are musical.

With its powerful combination of reverb, modulation, and expressive control, Sunlight Stereo positions itself as a modern classic in OBNE's catalog: one that balances complexity with accessibility, and experimentation with playability.

The OBNE Sunlight Stereo is available in maroon, yellow, and black, and it’s the perfect early Christmas gift to yourself. Stock won’t last, so grab yours today before it’s gone!
